🔘 Shad Rasa


SHADRASA :-

- NIRUKTI:-

-Rasa is an attribute of the drug which is experienced by an individual or by tasting it.

- ORIGIN OF RASA:-

• रसनार्थो रसस्तस्य द्रव्यमापः क्षितिस्तथा|
निर्वृत्तौ च विशेषे च प्रत्ययाः खादयस्त्रयः||
• Rasa (taste) is the object of gustatory sense organ or tongue (rasana). Source elements for its manifestation are apa (jala mahabhuta) and kshiti (prithvi mahabhuta). 
The variation in taste are caused due to other three mahabhuta like kha (akasha, vayu and agni).

- SIX TASTES:-

• स्वादुरम्लोऽथ लवणः कटुकस्तिक्त एव च|
कषायश्चेति षट्कोऽयं रसानां सङ्ग्रहः स्मृतः||
• There are total 6tastes:-

1.Madhura(Sweet)
2.Amla(Sour)
3.Lavana(Salt)
4.Tikta(Bitter)
5.Katu(Pungent)
6.Kashaya(Astringent)

- DESCRIPTION OF SHADRASA:-

1) MADHURA RASA:-

• LAKSHANA:-

• Sweetness is identified with its snehana(unctousness), prinana(deliciousness), ahaladana and mardavata.
• When consumes it spreads all over the mouths and sticks firmly.
• It nourishes the body.
• Sustains the life.
• Increases the kapha dosha
• Nourishes the sense organs and liked by ants.

• DOSHA KARMA:-

• Vatapittahara
• Kapha vardhana

• DHATU KARMA:-

• Rasadi sapta dhatu vardhaka and ojavardhaka
• Increases life span
• Nourishing sense organs and also pleasens the mind
• Increases strength
• Gives good complexion
• Reduces potency of poison
• Quenches the thirst
• Reduces burning sensation
• Good for skin
• Good for hairs
• Conductive for throat
• Gives stability, bulkiness.
• Soothing effect on nose, mouth, throat, lips and tongue
• Improves breast milk

• GUNA:-

• Snigdha, sheeta and guru

• ATISEVANAJANYA VIKARA:-

• Obesity
• Tenderness of body parts
• Lazziness
• Excess sleep
• Heaviness
• No interest towards food
• Loss of appetite
• Excess muscular growth around mouth and throat
• Breathlessness
• Cough
• Distension
• Vomiting
• Sweetness in mouth
• Loss of consciousness
• Loss of hoarseness of voice 
• Eliohanatatis etc….

• MADHURA GANA:-

• Ghrita (ghee, butter fat), Hema (gold), Guda 
Akshoda, Mocha, Chocha,Parushaka,Abhiru, Vira, Panasa, Rajadana,the three Bala  (Bala, Atibala and Nagabala),The two Medas – Meda and Mahameda,The four Parni – Shalaparni, Prishnaparni, Mudgaparni, Mashaparni,Jivanti,Jivaka, Rishabhaka,MadhukaBimbiVidari
the two Sravani – Mundi and Sravani,Ksheerasukla, Tugaksiri,
the two Ksheerini, Gambhari,
the two Saha, milk, sugarcane

2) AMLA RASA:-

• LAKHSHANA:-

• Sourness is identified with its actions like Dantaharsha(Pricking sensation in tooth), Mukhasrava(salivation), Swedana, clarity in mouth.
• It causes burning sensation in mouth and throat.
• It creates interest towards the taste
• Closing of eyes.

• DOSHA KARMA:-

• Vata shamaka
• Kaphapittakara

• DHATU KARMA:-

• Increases deliciousness of preparations
• Agnideepana
• Increases bulk of the body
• Give energy
• Sharpens mind
• Energises sense organs
• Gives strength
• Brings vata to its normal pathway
• Gives strength to heart
• Causes salivation
• Helps in swallowing
• Digest the food
• Causes burning sensation in throat

• GUNA:- 

• Laghu, Ushna, Snigdha
• Cold to touch

• ATISEVANAJANYA VIKARA:-

• When used in excess causes morbid sensation in teeth
• Burning sensation
• Closure of eyes
• Horripilation
• Vitiates blood
• Burning sensation on muscular tissues
• Causes weakness
• Causes swelling in the persons like emaciated, injured and weakened
• Causes suppuration of wound caused by ulceration, trauma, contagious bites, nurn, fracture, dislocation, swelling, poisonous urine, contact with poisonous animals, incision, seperation etc.
• Burning sensation in throat, chest and cardiac region
• Giddiness
• Itching sensation
• Anaemia
• Fever
• Herpes etc..

• AMLA GANA:-

•Dhatriphala,Amlika ,Matulunga,Amlavetasa, silver, buttermilk, Chukra, Palevata, curds, mango,Amrataka,Bhavya,Kapittha, Karamardaka etc. 

3) LAVANA RASA:-

• LAKSHANA:-

• Lavana rasa is one which is dissolved quickly, moistens and softens for a while.
• It causes burning sensation in mouth
• Gives good taste to the food
• Which causes salivation
• Takes away soften nature
• Causes burning sensation over cheek and throat.

• DOSHA KARMA:-

• Vatahara
• Kaphavardhaka

• DHATU KARMA:-

• Deepana
• Pachana
• Kledana
• Produces excision effect
• Bhedana
• Vikasi
• Laxative
• Cures stiffness, obstruction and accumulation
• Nullifies the effect of other tastes
• Salivation
• Clear the channels
• Softens all the body parts
• Gives good taste to food

• GUNA:-

• Na atiguru, snigdha, Ushna
• Tikshna, sara

• ATISEVANAJANYA VIKARA:-

• When salt used in excess causes aggrivation of rakta dhatu
• Causes thirst
• Loss of consciousness
• Burning sensation
• Causes erosion
• Vitiates muscle tissue
• Formation of Slough from skin lesions
• Aggrivated poisonous sympotoms
• Burning in inflamed region
• Dislodges teeth
• Reduces sexual strength
• Obstructs the normal functioning of sense organs
• Causes khalitya, palitya
• Causes bleeding disorders, herpes, gout, skin diseases
• Causes kandu, kotha, vaivarnya etc..

• LAVANA GANA:-

• Saundhava lavana , Sauvarchala lavana, Krishna lavana, Bida lavana, Samudra lavana, Audbhida, Romaka, Pamshuja, Seesa (lead) and Kshara (Alkalies) form the salt group

4) KATU RASA:-

• LAKSHANA:-

• Irritation to tongue
• Causes Pricking pain
• Causes burning sensation over mouth, nose and eyes and causes secretions
• Causes burning sensation over cheeks

• DOSHA KARMA:-

• Kaphahara
• Vatapittavardhaka

• DHATU KARMA:-

• Cleanses the mouth
• Appetizer
• Helps in absorption
• Causes lacrimation and secretion from the nose
• Brings proper action from sense organs
• Cure diseases like inflammation, obesity, urticaria, conjuctivitis and helps in elimination of waste products
• Gives good taste
• Alleviation of itching
• Stops excess growth from wounds
• Breaks the blood cloths
• Clear the channels
• Good for skin disorders

• GUNA:-

• Laghu, Ushna, Ruksha

• ATISEVANAJANYA VIKARA:-

• When katu rasa excessively used because of its vipaka it reduces sexual capacity
• Because of their taste and potency it cause unconscious
• Discomfort
• Numbness
• Emaciation
• Fainting, giddiness
• Burning sensation in throat
• Increases the body temperature
• Diminishes strength
• Because of predominance of vayu and agni mahabhuta it cause giddiness, burning sensation, tremors, pricking pain and pain in legs, arms, flanks etc.
• Diminishes semen

• KATU GANA:-

• Hingu, maricha, vidanga, Panchakola:- Pippali, pippalimoola, chavya, chitraka and sunthi, leafy vegetables such as kutheraka etc.

5) TIKTA RASA:-

• LAKSHANA:-

• Tikta rasa when consumed it will not allow to perceive other tastes
• Which itself is not tasty
• Cleanses the mouth
• Cause dryness
• Gives pleasant feeling
• Burning sensation in throat
• Takes away the good taste of preparations
• People won’t desire to take bitter substances

• DOSHA KARMA:-

• Pittakaphashamaka
• Vata vardhaka

• DHATU KARMA:-

• Itself is not tasty but cures anorexia
• Anti-poisonous
• Krimighna
• Releives from fainting, burning sensation, itching, skim disorders and thirst
• Gives firmness to skin and muscles
• Releives from fever
• Appetizer
• Digestive
• Purifies breast milk
• Scrapes away from unwanted tissues
• Kleda, meda, vasa, majja, lasika, mutra, mala shoshaka
• Medhya
• Kantha shodhana

• GUNA:-

• Ruksha, sheeta, laghu

• ATISEVANAJANYA VIKARA:-

• When tikta is used in excess because of uts dryness, roughness and non sliminess it deplete sapta dhatus
• Produces roughness in channels
• Reduces strength
• Causes emaciation
• Causes tiredness, giddiness,dryness of mouth
• Causes unctousness
• Produces diseases of vata
• Stiffness all over the body and nape
• Tremors
• Facial paralysis
• Headache
• Depletes all the dhatus etc..

• TIKTA GANA:-

• Patola, trayanti, chandana, ushira, Neem, bhunimba, katuka, valaka, tagar, agarwood , vatsaka, tumeric, musta, murva, apamarga, patha, bronze, iron, guduchi, dhanyavasa, brihat Panchamula:- Bilva, agnimantha, patala,gambhari,shyonaka etc.

6) KASHAYA RASA:-

• LAKSHANA:-

• It causes non sliminess, stiffness and obstruction in thorat
• Slows down the functions of tongue
• Has got vikasi action which is not good for heart
• Cause discomfort heart
• Obstructs the channels

• DOSHA KARMA:-

• Pittakapha shamaka
• Vata vardhaka

• DHATU KARMA:-

• Sangrahi
• Sandhanakara
• Ropana and shoshana
• Absorbs the fluid
• Scarps out unwanted tissues
• Purifies the blood
• Releives from pain

• GUNA:-

• Ruksha, sheeta, Alaghu

• ATISEVANAJANYA VIKARA:-

• When kashaya rasa is used excess causes dryness in mouth
• Discomfort in heart
• Distension of abdomen
• Disturbance in speech
• Obstruction in srotas
• Blackish discoloration of body parts
• Reduces sexual power
• Obstructs and gets digested slowly
• Cause obstruction to the passages of flatus, urine, faeces and semen
• Cause emaciation and tiredness
• Because of its roughness, non sliminess, dryness it causes various vata vyadhis.
• Pulsating sensation all over the body

• KASHAYA GANA:-

• Pathya, aksha, Sirisha, khadira, madhu, karanja, udumbara, mukta, pravala, anjana, gairika, kharjura,bisa, padma,utpala etc.
